چکیده

In the following paper, we discuss the exhaustive use and implementation of stabilization finite element methods for the resolution of the 3D time-dependent incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. The proposed method starts by the use of a finite element variational multiscale (VMS) method, which consists in here of a decomposition for both the velocity and the pressure fields into coarse/resolved scales and fine/unresolved scales. This choice of decomposition is shown to be favorable for simulating flows at high Reynolds number. We explore the behaviour and accuracy of the proposed approximation on three test cases. First, the lid-driven square cavity at Reynolds number up to 50,000 is compared with the highly resolved numerical simulations and second, the lid-driven cubic cavity up to Re = 12,000 is compared with the experimental data. Finally, we study the flow over a 2D backward-facing step at Re = 42,000. Results show that the present implementation is able to exhibit good stability and accuracy properties for high Reynolds number flows with unstructured meshes. 2010 Elsevier Inc. A Scalable Numerical Method for Simulating Flows Around High-Speed Train Under Crosswind Conditions

This paper presents a parallel Newton-Krylov-Schwarz method for the numerical simulation of unsteady flows at high Reynolds number around a high-speed train under crosswind. With a realistic train geometry, a realistic Reynolds number, and a realistic wind speed, this is a very challenging computational problem. Because of the limited parallel scalability, commercial CFD software is not suitabl...

Simple finite element method in vorticity formulation for incompressible flows

A very simple and eÆcient nite element method is introduced for two and three dimensional viscous incompressible ows using the vorticity formulation. The method relies on recasting traditional nite element method in the spirit of the high order accurate nite di erence methods introduced by the authors in [10]. Optimal accuracy of arbitrary order can be achieved using standard nite element or sp...

A Flow-condition-based Interpolation Mixed Finite Element Procedure for Higher Reynolds Number Fluid Flows

We present a (somewhat) new finite element procedure for the analysis of higher Reynolds number fluid flows. While two-dimensional conditions and incompressible fluid flows are considered, the scheme can directly be used for three-dimensional conditions and also has good potential for compressible flow analysis. The procedure is based on the use of a nine-node element, optimal for incompressibl...

A Finite Element Parallel Domain Decomposition Method for Incompressible Turbomachinery Flows

The paper presents a domain decomposition algorithm applied to a finite element code to model steady, incompressible, turbulent internal fluid flows. The domain decomposition parallelization is here considered as a key feature for the simulation of complex flow phenomena in turbomachinery where a huge number of computational grid points is necessary. An eddy viscosity modelling is adopted for t...

A Subgrid Model for the Time-Dependent Navier-Stokes Equations

We propose a stabilized subgrid finite-element method for the two-dimensional 2D nonstationary incompressible Naver-Stokes equation NSE . This method yields a subgrid eddy viscosity which does not act on the large flow structures. The proposed eddy viscous term is constructed by a fluctuation operator based on an L2-projection. The fluctuation operator can be implemented by the L2-projection fr...
